About Coach Wiggins

A little background…

Most people know me as Coach Wiggins. But what most people don’t know is: I love to write. Now, this was not something I was born with. I was blessed to have a wonderful high school English teacher, Laurel Matsukado. She encouraged my vivid imagination and my wild sense of humor. She taught me to love writing. She so inspired this three sport jock that I ended up pursuing a college degree and have taught High School English 9 for the past 32 years as well as coaching football and baseball.

It was during my own high school years that I enjoyed the many adventures that make up “The Onyx Boys Adventures.” My best friend, Burt, and I were a late 60’s, early 70’s version of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. We were, simply put, two teenage boys who thought we could and should do anything we wanted. Now don’t get me wrong. We were not disrespectful rebels. I like to think of us as a combination of Daniel Boone, John Wayne, Evel Knievel and Bruce Lee.

For years my family, friends and students have enjoyed these stories and encouraged me to put them down in writing. I hope my stories will interest you, too. Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to reading your comments on what you think of my adventures with Burt.

  1. Hello! Here’s a funny thing. I stumbled on your page while searching for Ms. Laurel Matsukado, my high school journalism teacher. 🙂 I’m pretty sure it must be the same “Motts.” She was a wonderful teacher and a great inspiration. Like you, I went into teaching before becoming a full-time writer–and Motts was no little part of that.

  2. Cliff, I picked up The Onyx Boys from Amazon last week. I haven’t had this much enjoyment reading in a long time! Loving every escapade:-) Well done, my friend.
